Living afloat
The story of the Luxe Motor Watergeus, the Groningse snik Hornblower, the klipperaak Aquarel, the lemmeraak 'Op Hoop van Zegen', the Friese maatkast Tordino and how to convert a Dutch barge into a houseboat.
MS Watergeus
The Watergeus is my home. It's an old Dutch Luxe Motor, built in 1929. She was about to be scrapped when we bought her...

MS Tordino
The Tordino is a Friese Maatkast built in 1922. She is being converted into a floating museum.
MS Aquarel
The Aquarel is an authentic klipperaak from 1916 converted for exhibitions and with a permanent small museum of maritime artifacts. She was sold in 2016 and is now a houseboat in Zaandam.
MY Op Hoop van Zegen
Op Hoop van Zegen
The 'Op Hoop van Zegen' is a lemmeraak from 1916. She was converted into a classic looking yacht.
I spent most of my time in or around boats. Read what I'm doing!
MS Hornblower
The Hornblower was a project of converting a snik into a yacht. I sold her in 2014 to start another project.

Living Afloat: March 2013

20th March 2013

The cold weather continues. It is hard to work, since I have to do a lot of outside work at the moment. I haven't taken any pictures of the progress, but they will follow.

17th March 2013

I'm running behind on any schedule you could imagine. I will update the blog and conversion work whenever I have some time. Progress on the Hornblower continued, but very slowly.

I was in Furnes today to have a look at some boats. There were less boats then in 2007. The old yard of André looks like it was used yesterday. What a shame the site closed down. How long will it take before flats will rise on this piece of heritage...

9th March 2013

There are a few houseboats in Brussels and some more in Anderlecht, next to Brussels. I had a look and was surprised to see a collection of different vessels.

It was becoming late, so the quality of the pictures is not that good.

2nd March 2013

As every Sunday, I have been driving around to see boats, this time I went to Kortrijk and Antwerp.

1st March 2013

Plumbing is not an easy job. When everything is mounted, you can check it. if it leaks, you can start all over again....
