Watergeus – Wood work

13th December 2008 – Completely worked on the port side of the ship’s hold, finishing the wood around the windows of the kitchen and living room and mounting some boxes in the sleeping room for the windows as well. Also started painting the pine wood in the sleeping room.

Trial for the Julie

11th December 2008 – In the evening we made a test drive. It took us 45 minutes to make a little trip of 800 meters. Th engine ran and good, but we are not sure what caused us to make it at such a speed. Even a traditional sleepspits, where horses or people were pulling the ship were quicker. The owner and skipper decided not to make the trip tomorrow and I fully support their choice.

Watergeus – Small jobs and Christmas decoration

7th December 2008 – Continuing again in the hold, doing smaller jobs in the sleeping room, corridor and starting to think how to finish the living room. At least that was the idea for today.

In the morning I cleaned the hold, making sure I had several piles of old wood for some friends and neighbours. Once a while I remove the old pieces I no longer need.

In the afternoon, I worked on finishing a door list and putting some wooden t&g in the corridor.

During the evening I started looking for my Christmas decoration.

Watergeus – Looking for a kitchen

6th December 2008 – During the first part of the day I went looking for a kitchen, paint for the sleeping room and some Christmas decoration. The idea for a big tree in my mast will be an project for next year.

In the evening I went to a ship further at the moorings. They worked last weekend on the engine and so they did today. I was right on time to hear it running. You often notice quickly how people can change something when buying ship. In the beginning, a lot is changing, and I believe it is really heading the good direction for this ship!

Watergeus – Bedroom finished

30th November 2008 – The sleeping room is finished, now I need to put the small lists, corner profiles and paint the whole room.

I made two door lists, one for the bedroom and one for the corridor. It keeps the doors from being taken further then the winches can hold. A normal carpenter would take 15 minutes to make them it took me over an hour. The result looked good.

In the afternoon I went looking to the Julie and how they made the engine running. The way some people can handle an engine and repair it is really incredible. Sadly it didn’t ran, but I learned again more in one afternoon then I learned the last couple of weeks.

Watergeus – Office space and lifeboat

29th November 2008 – Worked on the inside of the office desk, hiding all the electric cables and mounting supports for the computer cables. The more I work in the office space, the nicer it starts to look. Also, painting and pictures can make it look much more comfortable.

In the afternoon I emptied my lifeboat again. Once every two months I have to empty it, since the cover is to short and rain water does come in.

Watergeus – Snowing

23th November 2008 – It was to cold to work, I tried but without success. While having a coffee at my neighbour, it started snowing, and after ten minutes, everything started getting covered with snow, the perfect time to take pictures.

Watergeus – Adding a second fusebox

22nd November 2008 – While we worked on the electricity it started snowing. Today, they would deliver the new fridge to the neighbour. The first time snow and she had to open her wheelhouse roof..

In the afternoon we made up another fusebox would be necessary, since we forgot to calculate the boiler and the cooking equipment for the kitchen, three very power consuming equipment. I bought a bigger fusebox, so the tools in the engine room and the back accommodation could also become connected to this new box in the future. An expensive cost now, but in the end it had to be done anyway.

My parents worked on the sleeping room, while I helped pulling cables for the ship. After two days of work, the bathroom and kitchen are nearly finished.

Watergeus – Ballast

16th November 2008 – Mainly worked in the office space and corridor, putting little lists. In the evening, I filled my water tanks for the back accommodation. The more weight in the back, the better for steering. I’m also trying to figure out how much more weight I’ll need since my library and watertanks are near the front of the ship.

Watergeus – Ikea shopping

15th November 2008 – Decided not to work, but to go to Ikea and look for some smaller pieces of furniture / decoration and a kitchen. I came back with two lights and that’s it. In another shop I found a new shower tray in heavy metal like the old days. They had to lift it in our car with two people.

Watergeus – Bathroom

9th November 2008 – Worked in the bathroom, preparing the panels for the side. I can’t fix them yet since water pipes, electricity and insulation have to be put. Since I had some time left and didn’t know what else to do, I cut all the panels and put them in the bathroom. Saves time somewhere next year when building the bathroom.
