17th March 2012 – The area between the metal roof and the hatches had never been painted before. I used it as a storage space for metal, tools and ropes. Today, we cleaned half of the area. Most of the metal has been lowered in the engine room. It does not only helps for the weight (propeller needs to be under water), all my metal is now in one place.
Once the area was cleared, I cleaned it with a metal brush and put some Zinga paint on the bare metal. I hope it will last several years!
17th March 2012 – I bought some fittings for the cooling system. Since I want to finish the hatch on the Watergeus first, I’ll try to mount the cooling somewhere next week. I bought a filter for the cooling as well. People advised me to do so in case, I’m moving the boat in undeep water. Mud and sand will first enter the filter before getting trapped in the engine.
I also want to mount a deck wash on the same system for cleaning the deck.
11th March 2012 – I continued welding on the front hatch. I drilled a few holes to bolt the generator to the deck. This was not a real success. I have to reconsider how to mount the generator.
10th March 2012 – The front cabin was used for storing wood, tools and other bigger items. After sorting everything out, It was put in the front storage area or thrown away. A neighbour came to pick up what he could use. The rest is now gone.
10th March 2012 – It was time to clean the boat. After working on several little things, it was becoming hard to find back my tools and to walk without breaking anything.
4th March 2012 – The weather was dry so I decided to go for a walk and take some pictures.
2nd March 2012 – Two plates were cut. They will form the sides of the box for the generator. I started welding them as well. It will make it more solid.
28th February 2012 – After successfully unloading a 450kg heavy generator from my car last night, I started building a nice box for it. It must be in metal and water proof…
13th February 2012 – Every time there is a period of coldness you might expect some damage. Sadly enough, this time wa not different. My shaft on the Watergeus is leaking badly. I added some more grease and it slowed down the leaking.
12th February 2012 – On the weather forecast they mentioned from today on the freezing period is over. Personally, I didn’t notice much difference. Ice melted on the boat, but the canal was still frozen and I had cold feet while working!
I’m running out of wood, insulation and even screws. I’m a little short of money this month so I might have to stop working on the boat. There are still a lot of other jobs I could do, but it is still to cold…
12th February 2012 – While I only did a little job, it started snowing. I took my camera, made some shots, looked at the ice breaking tug and had a cup of coffee.
9th February 2012 – The ice is still growing around the boats. I wonder how long the cold period will continue. Now I’m starting to worry for two reasons: my electricity bill and the possible damage to the cooling system of both engines.
I’ read today that at least five woonarken sank because of broken water pipes. It makes you think twice!
9th February 2012 – I’ve ran out of insulation, so I built the frame for the wall that will divide sleeping room from the back of the boat.
8th February 2012 – I started insulating the ceiling of the bedroom. I hope to keep the heat more in the boat. The bedroom is a small area, but with with a difficult curve. Everybody knows there is nothing straight on a boat, but this area is a real disaster!
7th February 2012 – I did some measuring in the bedroom and realized I barely have some space to put a normal two person bed. It was very disappointing…
