30th April 2018 – While my parents painted the walls in primer , I managed to do some electricity work. In the afternoon, I mounted the letters DOUANE. These are heavy aluminium letters from an old building. It took me three hours to get them reasonably straight.
Month: April 2018
29th April 2018 – I built my first table for the exhibition space. It is a test and I like the idea, but not the finish.
A door was mounted to hide the wires and pumps in the technical space next to the toilets.
28th April 2018 – The ribs in the hold had to be covered with wood. This was, together with the boxes in the corridor finished.
24th April 2018 – While my parents painted the big wall in the hold, I continued with t&g. Since I didn’t had any time to go to the shop, I ran out of t&g…
Later that evening, I built my first frame for the show boxes.
23rd April 2018 – Started working in the corridor to the hold. This is one of the remaining places where I have a lot of wood work to do.
One of the remaining issues of the survey was to insulate the chimney of the heater.
22nd April 2018 – I went to Maasbracht. There is a small maritime museum. I visited, went for a good meal and had a boat trip. The good thing about that last one: I was able to take pictures you couldn’t otherwise take…
21st April 2018 – A perfect day for working. 26°C outside, at least 40°C inside. My father was sanding down the blue paint outside while I finished the big wall of the museum entrance. My mother vanished the old accommodation in the hold and started painting in the afternoon.
At this moment, I’m adding several galleries with, previous unpublished pictures to the posts. With my new website it is easier to add pictures and keywords.
15th April 2018 – A friend came to help me to put the new stickers on the wheelhouse with the name and registration number. This was one of the requirements for the survey.
In the late afternoon, I continued with t&g. An never ending story….
14th April 2018 – Today was a cleaning up day. I cleaned most of the wood I no longer needed. I finished small bits and pieces, while my mother started putting primer on the support for the ceiling.
The last wall was insulated. I’m getting there…
10th April 2018 – Another evening of working aboard Tordino. Working with t&g, finishing the last two supports for the roof.
8th April 2018 – One wall is finished in Tordino. It took me most of the afternoon to do some details with t&g. Ready to paint!
7th April 2018 – After being away for one month, Watergeus needed some attention. I cleaned the remaining hatches with a high pressure cleaner. The other half was done somewhere last year. Gangways were cleaned and watertanks refilled.
In the late afternoon, I went with two neighbours on our small boat for a trip along the other boats and small canals. The start of the season!
6th April 2018 – The bottom part of the wheelhouse got a second coat of paint. It is looking good again. Somewhere next week, I will glue the labels with her name and registration number on the back.
5th April 2018 – I quickly drove to the yard in Zelzate. A neighbour is on the slipway with her boat. She had a survey done and was surprisingly positive about the result! There were a few minor issues. I wanted to help, but couldn’t find the energy. Just back from the yard myself and going back with my second ship in September means enough yard work for me!
