31st August 2021 – I removed the big model of the ship’s elevator of Thuin. I want to rebuild the entrance (again) with ships models I recently bought. Therefore I bought some glass, wood and I just started the job. Surprisingly most was done by the end of the evening.
Month: August 2021
30th August 2021 – With the summer being gone in Oudenburg , if you can actually call it a summer, it is now time to concentrate on Bruges again. We cut the grass around the ship, cleaned the decks and so one… Maintaining three ships takes a lot of time!
29th August 2021 – After removing a big piece of concrete, an old gas bottle and parts of the floor, I decided to reuse the space I gained. I made two boxes for tools and will put them underneath hatches in the floor.
28th August 2021 – The yard people came from Holland to install the portholes aboard the Stad Rotterdam. The issues with the big windows will be dealt with another time.
28th August 2021 – I started by giving the floor in the living room a second coat of varnish. Then I removed the gas bottle from the engine room. A job I tried doing several times in the past but the bottle is stuck somewhere. Now I succeeded but my back is hurting!
A box with old ships decoration arrived. I can’t wait to hang it out, so it even looks more traditional inside.
27th August 2021 – I received a large number of ship models from sailing and navy ships. They are not suited for the museum since it has no relation to inland vessels. I can’t keep them in open air and ordering a glass cover for each of them is to expensive and not realistic. I started rebuilding my living room, not sure yet where to put the other ones….
26th August 2021 – The owners are making good progress. The ship is being sandblasted at the moment and the through shape of the hull is starting to become visible again. There are a few minor issues, but nothing that can’t be deal with.
26th August 2021 – I had another group of visitors coming for team building activity.
25th August 2021 – While my mother painted the rooftop in green, I was working downstairs putting a first coat of varnish on the floor. It needs at least three coats to be good!
25th August 2021 – Such a beautiful morning…. I make a walk every evening, but decided to make one this morning as well. So nice, it reminds me a bit of the first days in April when I started working for the Canals. I know it is still summer but it already feels like Autumn.
24th August 2021 – Today I finished the floor of the living room and started sanding the planks for the wheelhouse.
23rd August 2021 – I continued sanding down the planks for the floor and already made half of the living floor, including one coat of oil.
22nd August 2021 – I made a small trip but had to return. It was to windy. At full speed, she can handle the wind, but if I’m just cruising, it is not the most stable boat to hold a course.
In the evening I mounted two more light fittings and I started sanding some wood for the floor.
21st August 2021 – I added some flags to the site of Tordino. I no time, people stop and have a look. One reason to hang up even more flags in the future!
21st August 2021 – I removed the frame I once welded around the skylight. It was ugly and not really straight. Looks much better without. Two more light fittings were mounted and I started measuring for the floor.
