11th August 2017 – Wooden panels and t&g still had to be done above the toilet area. It is not the best area to work, since you can’t stand up and if you forget something, it is a climbing down with ladders, tables and steps.

10th August 2017 – I finished the entrance of the ship and the stairway. This is now ready for painting.
One of the fixed items in the hold are a few old hatches. They are heavy and I had to cut them the right size. From my previous ship, the Aquarel, I had a few supports for the hatches left. They are are metal, so I had to cut them the right length. It took me most of the day to move it around, measure and get it in the right position. Working with wooden hatches must have been a hard life in the early days!
6th August 2017 – The entrance still needed some finishing. I believed doing it within a few hours. I still wasn’t finished at the end of the day.
2nd August 2017 – Besides working on the Tordino, I also need to work on the collection and what will eventually be shown in the museum once it is finished. I drove to Amsterdam to pick up a few boat models.
While I was there, I visited a close friend. I hadn’t seen her for ages. We had a good meal, a walk in the Vondelpark and then I had to drive back… It was already to dark to drive through Amsterdam City to take pictures of the houseboats. Will be for another time.
1st August 2017 – Electricity is done, or at least, most of it. I have light in the Library, toilets, Office room, entrance and at the water tanks.
30th July 2017 – I am surprised to see how much wood you need for a conversion. It is not my first project and I should know better… Most local shops ran out of t&g, so I had to drive a bit further now to get some more.
We are getting there. Another project is the wheelhouse. A few months ago, I started rebuilding her. The wheel was in, but that was it… Now I redid the other wall, built a bench and made room for an old coal fire.
The freshly painted blue board was lifted back in position.
29th July 2017 – The entrance is one of the last places I want to finish. I’m walking there every time with heavy stuff, often hitting the sides of the steps. Never the less, I finished it today with t&g.
26th July 2017 – The furniture of the Aquarel was stored in Ghent when I sold the ship. I will need some of it for Open Monumentendag aboard the Tordino.
24th July 2017 – I continued with the entrance.
23rd July 2017 – When a neighbour started rebuilding his ship, I bought three doors of him. It are small doors, but I can’t lift them. They are hard wooden doors with bronze fittings. I think it are old cabin doors from a ferry or a pilot vessel.
The door will be the entrance to the hold. It is a rather small door, but once you enter the hold, you are supposed to have an surprising effect of the size of the ship. Or at least, this is the feeling I want to create.
22nd July 2017 – There was some furniture from my grandfather stored in an old house in Bruges. Time to pick it up. I will use the desk for the visitors who want to do research in the Library room.
My parents did some painting in ht hold, while I continued with my t&g.
18th July 2017 – The main door of the Library room has been mounted. The side of the hold is now nearly repainted and I finished the walls around the toilets.
10th July 2017 – Yesterday evening, I started thinking about the entrance and difference in height between the floor and the steps. Today I built a solid wooden frame around the support for the steps. In some way it is a shame I’m covering up the original floor, but I have some floor left from another ship, so it will look similar.
I built the frame for the wall of the entrance space. Once ready, it will hold the original steering wheel of one of the Westhinder lightvessels. This wheel was previously used aboard the Aquarel as decoration in the bar.
9th July 2017 – Still working in the office room, building walls.
The walls along the stairs were painted. they will be covered with an outside quality t&g, but a few coats of paint won’t harm…
I started with building a platform in front of the stairs. This will be the main entrance to the ship.
7th July 2017 – Wood was delivered today. I managed to finish most of the Office space while my parents painted the hold.
